About Aikya Kerala Kalari Sangham
Aikya Kerala Kalari Sangham
The Aikya Kerala Kalari, established by Sri T.K. Madhavan Gurukkal in 1972 in Korapuzha, Kozhikode, has been the lighthouse guiding many a venture in this field. For over five decades, it has stood as a centre of authentic Kalaripayattu training, holding faithfully to the traditions passed down through generations of Gurukkals.
Kalaripayattu is the only form among the most ancient traditional systems of physical culture, self-defence and martial technique still in existence today. It is believed to have had its origin in Kerala, the tiny state situated in the southwest of India. The purview of Kalaripayattu is not limited to a martial system — it permeates meditation, the teacher-disciple relationship, and the Ayurvedic treatment system, making it a complete and sublime system of physical art, holding to the adage: “in a healthy body, a healthy mind.”
Rooted in temple sanctity
From ancient times, kalaris were procured within temple sanctity, where people received training without any distinction between male and female. It was within the kalari itself that people attained knowledge, and the martial art sports (kayika) culture was established.
Pupils arrive at the kalari in the early morning, applying oil across their body, seeking the blessing of the kalari goddess and the kalari Guru (Master), before practising a wide range of body movements passed down through the lineage.

Mind Control & Immunity

Enthusiasm in Arts & Sport
Discipline gained on the kalari floor carries into academics, the arts and sporting life.
Sri T.K. Madhavan Gurukkal
Aikya Kerala Kalari was founded in 1972 in Korapuzha, Kozhikode, by Sri T.K. Madhavan Gurukkal, whose vision and discipline continue to guide the Sangham to this day. His teachings established a lineage that has since spread across branches and generations of disciples, several of whom carry his tradition forward as Gurukkals in their own right.
